The Patch Kindergarten

Welcome to a little Patch of Kinder joy….

The Patch Kindergarten is a magical and inclusive place where children begin their learning journey with confidence, curiosity and joy. Every child is seen, heard and valued as an individual, and we celebrate the unique strengths, interests and capabilities they bring to our community.

We hold high expectations for every child and believe that all children are capable learners. Our program is thoughtfully tailored to each stage of development, ensuring children are both supported and challenged to reach their fullest potential. Through meaningful, play-based experiences, children are provided with rich opportunities to explore, discover and grow together while developing a genuine love of learning.

A strong emphasis is placed on nurturing independence and resilience. We intentionally create opportunities for children to make choices, solve problems, take safe risks and persevere through challenges. These experiences build confidence, self-belief and a strong sense of purpose.

Through curiosity-driven learning and collaboration with peers, children develop critical thinking skills and become confident social participants. We place a strong focus on supporting children to engage positively with others, form friendships, share ideas, listen to different perspectives and contribute meaningfully within group experiences. At The Patch, we are committed to fostering capable, resilient and socially confident learners who feel empowered, connected and ready for the next stage of their educational journey.

Embedded First Nations Program

We proudly operate our service on the land of the Wurundjeri people and acknowledge their ongoing connection to Country. Respect for First Nations peoples, cultures and perspectives is embedded within our program and daily practice. Children are provided with meaningful opportunities to learn about First Nations traditions, values and ways of caring for the land, fostering an understanding of respect, community and sustainability. These principles align closely with the values we teach today, including connection to place, shared responsibility, and learning through story, culture and experience. Through this approach, we nurture children’s appreciation of Australia’s rich cultural heritage and support them to develop respect for the world around them.

We thank Emmy Webbers or Wurruk Yambo for her dedication, expertise, time and passion in educating our Team.

Forest Kinder

Our Forest Kinder Program provides our Kindergarten children with the unique opportunity to partner with a Grade Five buddy as they explore the rich learning landscape of The Patch Primary School. Through this special partnership, children build meaningful relationships with their older peers, fostering a sense of connection, confidence and belonging within the wider school community.

Together with their buddy, children engage in a variety of hands-on outdoor experiences including planting, pond exploration, observing seasonal changes, and using their senses to connect with nature. These shared experiences encourage curiosity, collaboration and respectful risk-taking, while also supporting the development of social skills and confidence.

The Forest Kinder Program reflects the core values of our Kindergarten philosophy — learning through play, exploration and real-world experiences. By immersing children in nature-based learning alongside supportive role models, we nurture independence, environmental awareness and positive relationships, all within a safe and inspiring outdoor setting.

After Kinder Care

At The Patch, we offer an After Kinder Care program four days a week (depending on enrolments). The program is held in the familiar kindergarten environment and is led by a qualified Early Childhood Teacher.

Our After Kinder Care follows the same play-based philosophy and approach as our kindergarten program, providing continuity and consistency for children. Experiences are thoughtfully planned to extend children’s interests, support social connections, and encourage creativity and independence in a relaxed, nurturing setting at the end of the kinder day.

Enrolments open directly through the kinder in late October. Please note that this program is not part of the Free Kinder initiative and fees apply.

The Patch Kindergarten believe all children have the right to be and feel safe in environments that respect cultural safety and maintain a culture in which children, their histories, and identities are valued, respected and cared for. Protecting children from the risks of abuse is embedded in everyday thinking and practice.
