Principal’s Welcome

Jim Burnside

Jim Burnside

Principal

I am proud to be part of The Patch Primary School. From our large nature setting, our friendly and inclusive community, and to our dedicated and holistic-focused staff and programs, The Patch Primary School is a school like no other.

Our school is situated on 15 picturesque acres amongst the rolling hills and forests of The Patch. We are privileged to have our own fern gully, wetlands and award-winning gardens for our students to explore and care for. Our setting is perfect for our nature-based learning philosophy and our saying of “it isn’t bad weather, it’s bad clothing”. We encourage our students to bring rain jackets and boots on wet days so they can continue to play, be curious and build cubbies!

We take great pride in our care for students’ wellbeing. All staff are trained in Berry Street trauma-informed practices and are known for their unconditional positive regard approach. We have a number of wellbeing initiatives, such as Kindness Matters and our Values Tree, that allow our students to model and be recognised for our values of Kindness, Courage and Connection each day. So, when a child joins our community, you can have confidence in knowing our staff will see their strengths and efforts, and they will have a voice.

We, also, take pride in our students’ academic achievements. We believe that their impressive results each year can be attributed to their fantastic engagement and love of learning about the world around them. We balance the approaches of structured explicit teaching to build the foundation of skills and knowledge in literacy and numeracy, while blending inquiry-based learning into each unit so our students have opportunities to apply their learning in different meaningful ways. Our classrooms, also, cover humanities inquiry units, Auslan (signing is our 2nd language), philosophy, respectful relationships and digital technologies. Beyond the classroom, our students get to enjoy specialist classes in Art, STEM (environmental science), PE, Music and Performing Arts.

I could go on and on about the pride I have in this school, but I recommend you reach out for a tour if you have an interest in entrusting us with your child’s schooling journey. I will always be willing to show you around our entire school site, explain how your child would fit within our student-centred programs and initiatives, and to answer any questions you may have. It, also, helps me to build a relationship with your family and to understand how we can best support you to give your child every chance of success as a Patchie.

I look forward to meeting you soon 😊
